This email I sent Jason says it all:

> Best of luck. We're rooting for you... no delivery web cam?

Ah, that's a negatory on the web cam, but thanks for the support! No delivery yet either. They're just keeping her overnight for observation because her blood pressure is high. She feels fine otherwise, and the blood & urine tests (now THERE's a band name!) seem to confirm that everything's hunky dory. Thus I have been sent home to make myself a bacon & cheese sandwich with sake while she sleeps.

And I thought London couldn't get any weirder.

Blah, almost 20 days since my last post. Apologies for my negligence. I'm still not a dad, but I did get to go to Windsor for an overnight. Stayed in Cumberland Lodge, which was a nice place out in the middle of nowhere with pictures of the Queen Mom in the drawing rooms. Then did The Long Walk from The Copper Horse to Windsor Castle. About a kilometer to the huge honkin' statue of King George the-something-or-other (I mean huge honkin' statue) and then another 5 km down a straight path to the castle. Nice view and a good way to approach the castle and be humbled by it's ever looming presence and solidity. Did the tour of course, but the state rooms were closed because of a visit from the king and queen of Jordan. Saw several dead kings in St. George's Chapel. Strange that some minor duke will have an elaborate tomb for himself and his wife yet most of the kings have a simple slab in the floor.

Elton John is in a television commercial for Royal Mail. And Angel subway station has the longest escalator I've ever been on. As you travel up it, if you tilt your head slightly upwards you can create the illusion that you are travelling straight up, a la Batman and Robin.

I learned how to write a cheque today. Well, I've been writing cheques for a while but I couldn't quite figure out what to do with the extra lines on the cheques they have here. But a search for "cheques" on images.google.com, restricted to the .uk domain, did the trick. Gotta love the web.

Yoshie is 37.5 weeks pregnant. Yoshie is in Windsor for 2.5 days. Baby would be full term if born today. Dave has his bags packed and figures he can make it there in 2.5 hours on short notice. Unless something happens between the hours of 23.5 and 5.5, in which case some cabby's gonna make his daily income with one fare.

Remember remember the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot. Geez, you'd think we were under attack! The buildup to Bonfire Night has been going on for at least two weeks but tonight the noise from backyard fireworks has been continuous since dusk. Kind of neat when they go off behind the tree in front of our window, it looks like it's on fire. Someone's making a mint out of this. We went to see the fireworks display at Alexander Palace which was excellent. Rivaled some of the shows at the now-defunct "Festival of Fire" in Toronto. Ally-pally is on top of a hill with a great view of London so we could see dozens of smaller explosions all over the city. I wonder if we'll get any sleep tonight?
