Yes I'm still alive, just adjusting to being a working stiff. Yeah, yeah, I hear all you violin players out there. Actually I'm enjoying work, and in a perverse way starting to enjoy the 2 hour commute. But I really miss my girls.

I am prepared for the big game tomorrow - I bought "Come On England Buns" today.

My first day of work at Nexus Alpha. Assembled my desk, hooked up my computer and met about a dozen people, most of whom's names I still remember. I'll be part of the team building the new Java version of their integrated transport information system. Dave puts his mark on the UK rail and bus service. Fitting since I'll be spending almost 4 hours a day riding the rails. And then there's the lovely half hour walk through Medway Estate Industrial Park from Strood train station. But I will not complain. It feels good to be back at work, and I should learn some interesting technology. If things work out we may move closer to the Thames estuary, since Yoshie will have to do far less travelling than me. We'll see.

My girls are on their way to Japan. I've been left behind to start my new job. Yes, that's right I can start rebuilding my Man(TM) points, the mighty hunter going out to provide for his family. Never mind that it's a two hour commute each way. A bachelor in London for three weeks and I'll be too tired to enjoy it. Ah the irony...

The worried new parents phoned the doctor at 6 am because of a slight fever. We were told to come into the clinic. After a brief look, we were told "Yes she has a slight fever. Give her something for the pain and give her a couple of days to get over it. And don't worry so much. She's a kid. She'll get sick sometimes." Ok, maybe he didn't say those last few sentences but he should have. Another learning experience for Mommy and Daddy.

It was monarchist heaven on the Beeb this long weekend. Commercial-free and nationalist to the max. I thought I finally had my fill of it all but Yukiko and I almost got run over by the Queen at a crosswalk on our street today and the giddy school-girl in me got all gushy again. I'm such a sucker for conformity.

Of course the only other thing on TV was football, so I have an excuse.
